The neighborhood

Tree canopy, porch lights, and a park that behaves like a town square.

East Sacramento sits just east of Midtown: Craftsman bungalows, the Fab 40s, Sac State, and miles of American River trail. McKinley Park is the living room — rose garden, library, and the city’s best community-built playground.

The dining strip along Folsom and J is unusually serious for a residential neighborhood: Canon, Allora, Kru, OneSpeed, Selland’s. After dinner, the neon at Club Raven has been on since 1946.
